about

It's been a while since our last transmission so it's time for us to unleash the latest in our series of dance weapons, and this collection of tracks is one we feel perfectly captures the essence of our underground adventures of late.

Boom Merchant has enjoyed a successful run of releases recently on Lonya's Asymmetric Recordings and Pole Folder's Reworck amongst others. Here he provides us with four tough but expressive cuts straight from the lab, laced with analogue grit and colourful progressions.

Sub Nine Point Nine starts the EP with a bang, featuring a diverse range of synths and samples layered over a sleek but powerful drum groove that really propels the track. The name of the track is a reference to the origin of some of the vocal samples used; the reaction of the commentators chopped from footage of Usain Bolt zipping past the finish line at a race in Jamaica. Smart effects processing does the rest and makes this a consistent mover in the club.

Smooth Drive follows with low chords drifting over tight percussion and waves of beefy analogue sub to create a groove that sits somewhere in between Detroit and Saturn. The drums break into a flurry of euphoric elements before exploding back into business, creating a track that'll massage your ears with it's subtle progression as much as it moves your feet with it's claps and snares.

Etive is a nature-inspired jam that took place after a trip across a mountain range in the Glencoe region of the Scottish Highlands. The low end groove is as tough as rock with distorted pulses and frantic congas rushing like wind across the rhythm before swirling harmonics take over as we reach the summit.

Lights on the Canal concludes proceedings on a dreamier note with hypnotic sitars, and pitched down plucks laid down over relentless Moog bass throbs. Deep horns resonating alongside and bleeps from another dimension to end our journey in a happy place.

We hope and trust these tracks will put a smile on your face.
